The Institute of Texan Cultures
Leaving Home, Finding Home: Texan Families Remember the Mexican Revolution
Looking for something interesting to do now that excitement of the holidays is past and the kids are still on break from school?
The Institute of Texan Cultures currently has a fascinating exhibit that should be of interest to anyone, especially anyone interested in history. The exhibit, “Leaving Home, Finding Home: Texan Families Remember the Mexican Revolution,” explains how the Mexican Revolution of 1910 created dramatic changes for families in Mexico and in Texas. The chaos and social upheaval caused thousands of Mexicans to flee their homeland and seek a new life in Texas.
This is also a personal experience exhibit of Texans whose families immigrated during the Mexican Revolution and will showcase stories that have been passed-down by using photos, period objects, and oral histories. Families explain in their own words the difficulties faced, achievements accomplished, and contributions made as they blended their Mexican heritage into their new Texas home.
