Alamo Heights is one of the most, if not the most, prestigious neighborhoods in San Antonio. It was incorporated as an independent municipality in 1922 so it is a town or suburb within a city and is located only 2 miles from downtown. It has a rich heritage and is a very desirable neighborhood with a hometown feel to call home, if you can afford it.
Many people are attracted by the easy access of Alamo Heights to San Antonio's business district, shopping, and entertainment choices. The area is well known for its charm, family friendly atmosphere, and excellent schools. For golfers, the Quarry Golf Club has one of the best golf courses in Texas.
Residential real estate in Alamo Heights ranges from condos and townhomes to modest frame homes to expensive estates, all graced with shady oak trees and nice landscaping. The most expensive home currently listed in the MLS is priced at $2,399,000. Only 5 years old, the 5352 square foot Mediterranean style home has 4 bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms, 2 car garage, gourmet kitchen, a beautiful pool, courtyards, lush landscaping, mature trees. A much more modest home can be had for much less, but still on the pricey side.
Alamo Heights is home to the fabulous gourmet market, Central Market HEB, probably the best place in town to find any gourmet food item you may need; they also have a huge selection of domestic and imported wines. Don't leave without checking out the awesome deli! Nearby is my favorite San Antonio restaurant, Cappy's Restaurant, where my husband and I often celebrate special occasions.
You never have to leave this neighborhood if you don't want to; Alamo Heights has it all!

Shirley this is absolutely the finest well established area in S.A. I just did a condo inspection that way a couple weeks ago and going back to that area brings back allot of memories when we were growing up in San Antonio. Alamo Heights was "the area" and still is. Glad to see it has been well preserved like many older areas in San Antonio.
