I clicked on Angelia's post about dieting and then clicked on Steve's post and saw this:
If it's September in Dallas, the State Fair is just around the corner! For many Texans, one of the highlights of the fair is the annual Fried Foods competition called the Big Tex Choice Award. Each year, finalists for the best new fried food are announced and a cook-off is held to decide on that year's winner. The finalist entries are all available for purchase at food stands during The State Fair of Texas, which runs at Dallas' Fair Park from September 25 to October 18, 2009.
This year's finalists for best new fried food are:
Deep Fried Butter: Sweetened, flavored, whipped butter wrapped in dough and deep-fried.
Green Goblins: Cherry peppers packed with spicy shredded chicken and guacamole, battered and deep fried. Topped with queso.
Twisted Yam On A Stick: Spiral-cut yam fried crispy, rolled in butter, dusted with cinnamon and sugar.
Fernie's Deep Fried Peaches & Cream: Peaches coated with batter and deep fried, sprinkled with streusel and cream. Served with raspberry sauce.
Texas Fried Pecan Pie: Pecan pie battered and deep fried, drizzled with caramel sauce and topped with cream and chopped pecans.
Country Fried Pork Chips: Thin pork loin seasoned, dipped in corn meal and deep fried. Served with ketchup or gravy.
Sweet Jalapeno Corn Dog Shrimp: Shrimp coated with sweet and spicy batter, deep fried and served with spicy glaze.
Fried Peanut Butter Cup Macaroon: Peanut butter cup wrapped in coconut macaroon, fried and dusted with powdered sugar. Ice cream scoop optional.
In previous years, the winners of this competition have included such favorites as Chicken Fried Bacon, the Fried Banana Split and Deep-Fried Twinkies.
I was joking in the title of this post, but with choices like Deep Fried Butter, perhaps a defibrillator really is in order!

Oh my goodness, deep fried butter??? Who thought of such a thing. How funny, this is definitely not diet food.
This year I will limit myself to only two of these items.
Hi Shirley... thanks for the re-blog! Unlike Richard, I will NOT limit myself to two of these items! :)
Fried, fried and more fried!! Wow, I have admit most of them sound incredibly good! Maybe not fried butter, but who knows, I've never tried it!!
Hi Chris, I can't imagine eating deep fried butter...
Hi Richard, Enjoy!
Hi Steve, Please try the pecan pie one for me.
Hi Mary, The fried butter would make me sick to my tummy for sure.
Shirley - looks like my kind of food court. Those Green Goblins look pretty interesting to me. But heck with the defibrillator, you need Roto-Rooter after this.
I want to know who sits around thinking up this stuff... so much friend food. I wasnt aware of how many things were friend before moving to Texas. They have Fried Cheese Cake, Fried Guacamole... just some odd ball things to fry.
Shirley - What is it about State Fair food that is so artery clogging but WONDERFUL:-) The California State Fair is currently going on, and we have those same types of culinary delights to demonize any diet.
Shirley, I can feel my arteries clogging just reading the post... I have to admit though -
Fernie's Deep Fried Peaches & Cream: Peaches coated with batter and deep fried, sprinkled with streusel and cream. Served with raspberry sauce.
now that does tantalize... I have all these peaches in my kitchen I am afraid are going to go bad... I wish I had the recipe, I may have to improvise... Yum!
Hi Mike, Eating this stuff just one day couldn't hurt. Or could it?
Hi John, My mother prepared a lot of fried foods when I was a kid... chicken, steak, pork chops, bacon, sausage, okra, fried pies, and more....
Myrl, That's a good way to describe it... "demonize any diet". LOL
OK Joanne, I looked this up... just for you:
"The peach is coated in a batter of cinnamon, ginger, coconut, graham cracker crumbs, eggs and milk, and submerged in grease.
There's more.
Then it's drizzled in raspberry sauce and sprinkled with streusel topping, with a dollop of whipped cream."
:o)
