I love the way Maureen staged this patio for HGTV. The results are beautiful!
Don't Forget to Stage the Patio ~ we Staged this one for HGTV's "My First Place"
Sellers, remember that when your home is on the market, all outdoor spaces have the potential to expand your "living space" ~ and you need to "show" buyers how the outdoor spaces can be used.
Our company was selected to provide patio furnishings for a young first-time homebuying couple in Portland Oregon for an episode of HGTV's hit show "My First Place" that was aired today (it will be aired again on April 12th -- check your local listings for air time).
Our goal was to provide this cute young couple with fun, colorful patio furniture that they wanted, to expand the actual living space of their small bungalow. During our interview before filming, we determined that they wanted a table & chairs, two loungers for sunning, and a barbeque and refrigerator for entertaining their friends. Here are some Before & After photos of our project ...
Here is the space we were given to work with ... a small concrete patio off the kitchen. (The budget was for furnishings only.)
Our goal was to add color, flowers, and a dining set along with a barbeque (this one had a built-in refrigerator for keeping drinks cold) and a pair of lounge chairs ~ to add "life" to this small patio area.
Here's a photo of Jeff and Jocelyn, the young couple in front of their first place ~ they seemed pretty happy with their housewarming gift from HGTV!

Hey that looks great Shirley!
That looks very nice!
Hi Shirley... what a tremendous difference. Staging does not end at the four walls of the house.
What a difference adding some color, I really enjoyed the before and after. The patio staging looks so inviting and adds an "outdoor room" to the space. Definitely worth the effort.
Hi Shirley ~ Thanks so much for reblogging my post! This HGTV project was really fun to work on ... and we're happy the couple liked the outcome!
They talk about curb appeal; let's call this patio appeal. Sure makes a big difference.
What a difference that made to the outdoor area! If the buyers feel they can have a BBQ and invite friends into a back yard, I'm sure they are going to like the house even better.
Hi Shirley, I'm glad you posted this, I would have missed it otherwise. The patio looks like a wonderful place to hang out with friends. Maureen did a great job.
Shirley - That's really good advice about the patio area! By the way, I didn't have my glasses on when I first viewed your photos. In your top photo, I saw that rolled up green hose on the side of the house, and thought it was a wheel. I was certain it was a mobile home. . .LOL
Shirely - What an amazing transformation. It's just beautiful and I love the colors!
I thought so too, Greg. Thanks.
Welcome, Nu Nu! This is the first time I have seen you on AR although VB mentioned that you were going to start blogging. :o)
Hi Steve, A nice yard and patio add a lot to a house.
Cynthia, Definitely!
Hi Maureen, You're very welcome. I couldn't resist!
Hi C&C, Patio appeal... a new term but a good one!
Hi Cynthia L., The patio looks very inviting!
Hi Mary, If I lived in Portland, I would have Maureen stage my house!
Haha, That's funny, Myrl. Portland has a lot of these little cottage homes.
Hi Donna, Portland has a lot of overcast, rainy days. It also has a lot of beautiful flowers because of all the rain. I think the colors Maureen used can really brighten up a gloomy day.
I love that Maureen calls her company Room Solutions and then went to that outdoor room and did a great job!
