Shirley's San Antonio Real Estate Blog: Curb Appeal

Curb Appeal

The Importance of Curb Appeal

The first view, the first impression, a buyer has of your house is the curbside view so it is very important to make sure your home has great curb appeal.  After all, no matter how wonderful the interior of a home is, if a buyer declines to view the interior based on the appearance of the exterior,  your house will stay on the market longer and you may get a lower offer than you would otherwise.

  • Keep sidewalks cleared.
  • Mow, water, weed, and edge the lawn.
  • Paint faded window trim.
  • Since the color yellow evokes a buying emotion, plant yellow flowers or group flower pots together.  Marigolds are an inexpensive yet attractive option.
  • Trim bushes, especially the ones near the house.
  • Make sure your house number can be clearly read.

Very True Shirley! First Impression is critical!

Hi Shirley, I couldn't agree more, I have also noticed that if the mailbox is on the street it can really make a bad impression if it looks shabby.  Someting as simple as putting in a new mailbox adds to the updated well kept look for curb appeal.  :)

Shirley,

Many times the Seller's work very hard inside that the outside is easily overlooked...good point!

Curb appeal seems to be lost on a lot of sellers.  Too bad because sometimes that just ruins the sell.

Shirley~ This is so true. Sometimes buyers will refuse to look at the interior of the home just by seeing the exterior. Also, by the time some sellers decide to take the initiative to do something to correct this, their home has been on the market and become stale. They have lost that initial group of buyers that were already in the market looking.

Shirley, I have to agree as all the others. If the home does not appeal to a buyer from the strret...they probably have a negative attitude of the home before ever entering the home.

Amazing what a little TLC of a home and yard will have on the curb appeal.
