There has been some talk of weddings on ActiveRain lately... one in particular. And today I attended a lovely wedding at Oak Hills Country Club. I just blogged about it. Oak Hills is a beautiful place to have a wedding and there are other great places to be wed in San antonio.
The Women's Club of San Antonio at 1717 San Pedro. I have never been inside this lovely old mansion but our fellow ActiveRainer, Judi Morgan, is a vice president of this organization and has pictures of the mansion on her ActiveRain page.
(The historic) Little Church of La Villita. The cornerstone was laid for the church on March 2, 1879. Several denominations have held services here. It is now an active non-denominational church and a favorite site for weddings.
Woodman of the World Chapel on Brees St. in Alamo Heights. My step-daughter's wedding was held in this beautiful chapel which was built in the late 1800's. I wasn't around at the time of the wedding but I have seen pictures and it looks really nice. Some unique characteristics fo the chapel are mahogany woodwork, arched stone walkways, and original Tiffany stained glass windows throughout. Behind the altar is a large Tiffany landscape called River of Life.
(Also historic) San Fernando Cathedral. This would be a very memorable place to hold your wedding. (You may have to be Catholic to have a wedding here but I'm not sure.)
Marriage Island, sometimes called Wedding Island, is a small, green oasis on the San Antonio River Walk. This tiny island only has room for the wedding party while guests watch from the riverbank. Legend says any couple who weds on Marriage Island will have a long and happy life together. After your wedding ceremony, enjoy a romantic boat ride down the river. Request reservations through the Parks and Recreation Department at 210-207-7275.
The San Antonio Botanical Gardens will provide a breathtaking backdrop for both casual and elegant wedding ceremonies. The Garden has 33 acres of exquisite flowers and lush plants and offers a wide variety of venues.
The Witte Museum. Located along the banks of the San Antonio River, the historic Witte Museum offers a charming, elegant setting for your outdoor wedding ceremony. After exchanging your vows, you may enjoy your reception in the Prassel Auditorium.
I'm sure there are many other great venues for weddings here in San Antonio. Please add your favorite in the comments section.

:D.
there Shirley, my friend
Them sure are some fine sounden places, for folk's to have their Weddings at.
Shirley,
Years ago my college roomate was married in the Church of La vallita, which was Catholic at the time. Very romantic and charming for a young couple.
Shirley - Since you did this piece on wedding spots, I thought I'd let you know of an amazing photographer here in San Antonio. I actually took some real estate classes with him (don't think he's finished his classes yet...he wasn't 100% sure when he would), but his name is Winfield Little and he's got a great site, loaded with examples of his work. Thought you might enjoy the info.
I am going to check out that photographer and see what his prices are like. Thanks Matt. kM
Hi Matt, I clicked on the link you provided... actually, I was looking at this website last night! Great website, beautiful photos, and he has tons of information, including probably every wedding venue in town, with the exception of one's own back yard. Your comment anchors him in my mind. I will definitely remember him.
Hi Kristin, Winfield Little looks like someone definitely worth checking out for wedding photos and for other photos as well.
Hi Trey, Yes, "charming" is the right word. I love this little church.
Hi Dale, I think it would be hard to choose from all the great locations we have here.
Kristin - Why didn't I think to mention him to you before! D'oh! We had classes together and I think he would be an amazing agent. Tell him I sent you, maybe he'll hook you up with a decent price!
Shirley - Yeah he impressed me with his website and the photos. We were talking web-geek stuff when he showed it to me in class. I was really impressed (better than the guy who they're always reporting on here in SA that keeps ripping people off - I think they finally caught him).
This is neat information. I enjoyed reading your post
Don
I just happened to be surfing through Twitter and found another wedding photographer here in town (and liked their photos as well). Her name is Ashley Palermo and her site is picturememarried.com.
Matt, Ashley has a unique style. I especially like her pictures with the babies.
Donald, Thank you for your comment.
Shirley, Don & I got married on Marriage Island -- it's a nice place for a wedding. Not very private -- lots of tourist stopped during our ceremony, including one of the river barges. Our wedding was photographed by a LOT of tourists!
Judi, Your wedding pictures may be all over the world by now.
Shirley, yeah, we laugh about it often. One of the barges actually pulled up to the side of the river and everyone on the barge "hollered" out CONGRATULATIONS!!! at the same time as we were walking off the Island. Pretty Cool!! :)
